Bolivia Travel Guide - Transportation
Transportation:
- Land - You can enter Bolivia via land transportation from any of the nearby countries, but you ought to know that in most places 4*4 vehicles are needed, unless you use the local buses or trucks which are very simple to use, you just buy a ticket as you enter the bus.
- Air - Flights to/from Chile and Peru are the cheapest. Santa Cruz is a popular landing point from other South American countries. Flying into La Paz is more expensive than to Santa Cruz. Bolivia's international airports are La Paz's “El Alto” and Santa Cruz' “Viru-Viru” International. An international departure tax (around B$25.00), is charged at the airport. There's also a 15% tax on international airfares purchased in Bolivia.
- Water - There’s an option of taking a boat from Brazil through the Amazon but it’s not highly recommended for security and liability reasons.
Traveling around:
All transportations options are acceptable trains, buses, trucks, jeeps, and plains
It’s all a question of time and money. But beware of the roads as car accidents happen too often.
